About me
- I am the Managing Partner of Skin Care Physicians in Boynton Beach. A native of Miami, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida and went on to the Medical Scholar’s program at the University of Illinois. While a medical scholar,I completed my M.D., as well as advanced coursework in public health and research methods. I returned to Miami for residency at the University of Miami where I remain on faculty. I have served as the President of the Florida Academy of Dermatology and Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons . I recently completed four year term on the AAD Board of Directors and as AAD Advisory Board Chair. After serving on some of the most central Academy committees I have now turned my attention to fixing the broken Medicare reimbursement formula. As Chair or the new task force “Finding Common Sense Medicare Legislation” I am spearheading the formation of a single issue alliance of Physician groups dedicated to achieving an inflation based Medicare update. In addition, I presently serve as member of the AAD leadership steering committee, and as Parliamentarian of Academy of The Florida Academy of Dermatology.
Changing AAD Advocacy
I have spent my career studying health policy and the last 2 years figuring out exactly what to do about plummeting reimbursement. My goal is to create a single issue alliance of EVERYONE who is paid using the PFS (physician fee schedule). The reality is that our colleagues (or perhaps their societies ) are not ready for this. I organized one of the largest meetings of medical specialty societies. As strange as it sounds, for now EVERY medical organization seems bent on continuing with the old playbook. If we keep on going along, we will quite simply end up with the same results - cut after cut.
Leadership
I have a plan for a single issue alliance. I have spent the last 2 years traveling around, lecturing on the subject. The reality is that we have to break the institutional resistance to an alliance. There is no better place to start than the AAD. Take a look at my plan (above).
